Installation problems - SATA drive controller driver
Hello all, I haven't had a Linux installation in over 10 years when I was running Slackware 0.99.15 on my old 486 so I'm a bit more than just rusty.
I decided to start off easy and try Mandriva LE2005 (i.e. ver 10.2 for the x86_64) and couldn't get past the hard drive controller driver installation. I keep getting the following problem: It hangs at the message that reads "Installing driver for hard drive controller nVidia Corporation|CK804 Serial ATA Controller" for quite some time and then eventually gives me the message "insmod'ing module sata_nv failed at /usr/bin/perl-install/modules.pm line 324" I then get the option of trying to install something else but have no idea what I am supposed to be installing. I've tried a couple of the other SATA's in the list it provides but with no luck. I am running an Athlon64 3200 on an ASUS A8N-E board with a Seagate 200GB Barracuda drive. I have tried downloading another copy of disk 1 and also downloaded the bootable DVD. All gave me the same error. Any ideas? TIA DB |
okay after a little searching I found this http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...05/02/2/288101 which looks like it may be a similar problem to what I am getting. So my question is now going to become three questions:
1. Does anyone know if the LE2005 x86_64 release of mandriva has a kernel that supports my nVidia Nforce4? 2. If not, is there a Kernel that does support the Asus A8N-E Mobo? 3. Without using a floppy (yes, I didn't bother buying one for this new set up. Who'd have thought that I'd still need one?) is there any way to replace the kernel on the CD1 ISO? I can't compile a new kernel without somewhere to compile it. :) |
