Exclamation Installation Problems for Red Hat 9.0...

This is my first time installing Red Hat linux, and well... It really isnt going so well for me. It will boot into the installation, and it says "Boot:", I hit enter... Then it goes into the installation, right? Well ok, so I skip the CD integrity thing, and then it probes my periferals. Well thats when it goes to hell... It sees my video card (GeForce 4 Ti 4200), then it sees my monitor as an unknown monitor (AOC Spectrum 7VIr). Then the screen goes black and then it shuts off, after it says thats its starting xserver or somthing like that...? I hope someone can help me lol, I love linux and I want to really use it... Thanks to anyone that is willing to help =D!!!

Redhat Install

I have had the same exact problem, go through the install and then when it detects video card and monitor the monitor shuts off and end of installation. I just installed SuSE 8.2 Pro instead. BTW, I am using a GeForce 5200 FX and an AOpen A70S 17" Monitor, so it's not just your card and/or monitor.

i had the same problem with my geforceFX when i was installing RH 9. i don't think tehy support that card yet.

anyway, here's what i did:

1. install in text mode. make sure you choose a text login. don't choose the graphical interace.

2. edit the XFree86 config file and set the device driver to 'nv' or 'nvidia' ... i can't remember which one.

3. update the driver from nvidia's site if you get it running.

hope that helps!
