Installation Problem/Suse 9.1 Professional
when I try to install 9.1 Pro i can get as far as when it checks my hardware and the packages then in red letters it says under software:
Cannot read package data from installtion media. media error? Error: No proposal Somebody please help -Pilunchi:cry: |
From the suse knowledge base:
"Before starting with the installation, enter, at the boot prompt, cdromdevice=hdc. Replace hdc (first drive on the second IDE controller) with the CD or DVD drive required in your case. Alternatively, select "Abort Installation" both in the current menu and in the subsequent window to access linuxrc. Once in linuxrc, press Enter three times to restart the installation process. In addition, you might need to add a kernel parameter at the boot prompt: pci=acpi Now you should be able to install." |
i am new so can you make it a bit more easier to understand?
|
Sure, sorry!
Reboot the computer and restart the install process. Insert the cd in the drive and run the install. In the first screen, you will see some options (including start the install process), and a command line, where you can type things. Choose Install, and in that line, type this command: cdrmdevice=hdc This will tell linux where to look for a cd media with packages. hdc is a way to locate your cdrom, it means "the first drive on the second ide controller". We're guessing this is correct for you, it may vary. If you keep seeing the no proposal thing, try cdromdevice=hdb or cdromdevice=hdd |

Yes, try to pass two parameters in that command line we used:
Type exactly this: cdromdevice=hdc pci=acpi And see if it goes. |

You're welcome, pilunchi. Its just a matter of patience. I had this problem when i first installed suse, its no big deal. but I'm having a hard trying to remember what I did.
Which options do you see when you first boot the install cds? Google for "suse no proposal". It will point you to several other people/forums with the same issue. You'll see, this will solve in no time. |
