Installation of suse 8.2 very very slow
Hello, I have used linux once or twice, so I still know next to nothing. I want to totally switch to linux as my main OS (from 8 years of windows). I decided to install a "main stream/big" distro. I downloaded the suse 8.2 image and installed every package. When I booted into KDE everything was so slow it took 30 seconds to load Konsole. Even in gnome or any other GUI it took forever to load anything. And when I got a browser open, webpages take a good 15 seconds longer then they should. I have a cable connection and tried Mozilla 1.4. Firebird 0.7. Konqueror 3.1.1. and galeon, not sure what version. I have everything updated through the suse online update thing.
I have a amd duron 1260 mhz 512 mb sdram maxtor 40gb hd SIS900 10/100 network card. I have no clue why it is so slow. udma133 is on. Any ideas? And if not, what distro should I try next as my main OS.?? |
you may try to reinstall .... with minimal option (default selection with kde)
