Installation of Redhat ES 4 - No hard drives have been found

Trying to install Redhat ES 4 on a Dell PowerEdge SC1430 with 2xSATA drives.
On installation getting the error
"No hard drives have been found. You probably need to manually choose device drivers for the installation to succeed. Would you like to select drivers now?"

- No matter what I do - I cannot get this to install.
Can anyone offer me any suggestions....

Many thanks

What's Redhat 10? Do you mean Fedora 10 beta?

eh? I've installed SuSE on this no problem, so hard disks are there!

Your title says Redhat 10. There is no such thing.

You make no sense.

chickenjoy 10-06-2008 03:49 AM

Maybe you need to initialize your RAID first.

And note that your edit times show on your posts - no one buys your feigned sleight.

linuxer8786 10-06-2008 03:56 AM

you should change AHCI to ICH9 in bios

? Was just correcting myself, jeez!

Mate you're an idiot - you ask questions about RH10 then try to make it sound like you make perfect sense.

I don't hide the fact that I know nothing about Redhat, but calling me an idiot is a bit harsh.

This is a newbie forum after all.

billymayday 10-06-2008 05:53 AM

Writing about about Redhat10, then claiming to be taliking about about RHEL4 has nothing to do with being a linux newbie, it's about not being able to explain yourself. To compound the issue, you've tried to cover up your mistakes, and your initial response

was to throw it back on me.

No - you're an idiot!

I corrected my post, hardly covering up my mistake. I admitted the mistake. Get over it. There was no throw back to you personally, this is a public forum. If you don't want to help me, then don't!

well enough of the bitching, bottom line is you need to read the error msg presented and follow directions of the installer.

so get the RHE4 drivers for your HDD controller or SDD controller or RAID controller and move forward from there.

Dont you think this thread is old and dead for long? Why not start your own thread for your issues. This is regarding RHEL4 on a server. And you are talking about RH9 on desktop. No relation except RH.
RH9 is too old and may not install on sata or scsi hard drives.

all right,I'd abandoned all hope for installing double os,I removed all partions on the drives, and installed a single linuxl.

CZTY aready started his own thread

I think however that the question was fair in this case ;)
