Installation of Linux

Installation terminates during when it is formatting the Hard Disk.
What is the appropriate partition I should give a 2GB HDD.

Have you tried the installation cd with another machine/cdrom drive? It may be broken...If you downloaded and burned it yourself, have you tried the md5sum?

Thanks Mara,
Over the night here I was busy and I found that I needed a faster CD-ROM drive since I was using an 8X speed.
Another problem. I am using Red Hat Linux 7.3 and I want to set up my machine as a POP box, that is I want to send mail and receive mail. I have checked around and I understand ,that I need 'sendmail', but how do I get it. Is it bundled with the distribution CDs that I have or do I have to download?
Downloading here is not exactly easy as I have a dial-up connection.
Cheers.

Hey, hey.....i had mandrake 9.1 freeze my machine up during installation too...........i opted to completely wipe my HD and start off with linux RIGHT........everything was going peachy walking through the install steps, after performing installation from 1st disk it didn't prompt me for 2nd--it just popped the cd drawer open and froze the machine.........i thought it could just be a corrupt segment on the disk.......but as i was using my burner for the install (only reads at 8x) i'm wondering if that's to blame in light of the troubles you had.........i didn't try it in my -rom drive cause it occasionally craps out on me....i ended up sucking it up and rebooting windoze :(

WHAT SPECIFICALLY MAKES YOU THINK THAT DRIVE READ SPEED COULD BE TO BLAME?? IF THAT'S THE CASE I'LL TRY AGAIN RIGHT AWAY WITH A FASTER CD-ROM............pls help......I'M READY FOR THE SWITCH!! -THANKS

ps
i read someone else's post saying that their asus A7S333 motherboard didn't have any problems, even though it's not on the mandrake list.....i guess it seems more like a disk prob, but i got it right from mandrakesoft......maybe i went throught the partitioning section of the easy-install wrong?.....any clues for a hapless gnubie???? Thanks!
