Installation of Firefox 42 to Linux Mint Rebecca 17.1
OK guys I am having a massive problem updating Firefox on my Linux Mint Rebecca 17.1...in fact I now seem to have lost the ability to access synaptic package manager at all. When I try an log into it I get followin errors:
E: Encountered a a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/list/packages.linuxmint,com_dist_rebecca_import_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened
E: _cache->open() failed please report
Does this mean that my version of Linux is no longer being supported?
Would be most grateful for any info or advice...
Mint 17.2 is supported until April, 2019. I don't see how trying and failing to install firefox is going to have anything to do with logging in. Or do you mean you are not able to open Synaptic. What exactly did you do? I don't use Mint normally but updated to firefox 42 several days ago by simply doing: sudo apt-get install firefox.
Thank you to everyone who gave their input and solutions. I have now successfully updated Firefox (using sudo apt-get install firefox) and updated flash (finally after months of annoying warnings - using sudo apt-get install adobe flash-plugin). Much appreciated fellas!
