installation of dlink card

Hi to all the experts,

I have inherited a red hat 9.0 machine from a kind friend and would like to set up a wireless machine with my window based machine (with a 2wire hub)

I bought a D-link pci adapter 802.11g/2.4ghz wireless and installed it into the redhat machine but upon boot up, it cannot detect the card. Where can I find the drivers for it?

I would appreciate if the experts can shed some lights how to configure the wire less card within redhat 9.0 and to build a wireless based SOHO (with windows and linux)?

Many thanks

cheers,

Welcome to LQ!

Linux wireless is in its adolescence right now, so support can be hit-and-miss.

You may wish to start by asking the moderators to move this thread to the Wireless Networking forum so your question will be more likely to get the attention it deserves.

I recommend you start by checking out the hcl to see if there's an entry for your card, then by familiarizing yourself with A Survey of Linux and Wifi.

You'll probably be using either madwifi, or ndiswrapper, there may be other options, but my D-Link card uses madwifi, so that's where my driver research stopped.

If your card is on this list, you know you'll be using madiwfi. If not, google around to see if you can find out what chipset your card uses.

Hope I helped some,

Good Luck!

BTW, I also recommend everyone read this.
