Installation Issues

During mandrake installation problem:

Keyboard (Turbo-Media USB) fails (Num, Caps, Scroll lights all turn on when going into second stage install, and hence )
I installed without Keyboard (with the intention of setting everything up later)

installed completed and i log onto root (no passwrd)
try and add user, if i dont get it the first time an error occurs etc/pmtp and etc/gtmp exists (which i found out that if i delete them i can then proceed in adding a user)

So far so good

Program Installation problem:

Trying install progrmas now, headache, but success, i managed to get opera and yahoo messenger installed and running. Turned the comp off and went to bed. (could not get wine working though)

Now turn the comp back on in the morn ... everything in the opera folder was deleted found yahoo in /opt/ymessenger and when i ran the executable it went through setup phase

Question:

Now what the hell happened to opera (tar.gz) and yahoo (rpm) which WERE installed and working?
Also are there any others with the mandrake installation problem that I had?

Thanks
Jon
