installation help! Newb Here
 

Sry i have posted before but i think my thread has been lost so i will re-post because my problem still has not been solved.

I am one of the biggest noobs probably with linux right now. I have wanted linux for about 3 months now and still haven't figured out how to install it on my Windows Xp machine. I want Linux Redhat 9 and i read the installation instructions of the official Redhat site and still do not know how to install it. Can somone please help? I want to install it on my WIndows XP machine but not have XP anymore after i install it. I do not know what that process is called, but can someone please guide me trough it.

I need to know exactly what files to download to get Red Hat. and exactly how to load them on to a CD-ROM so i can boot from CD rom on a windows XP machine, but not have XP after i install redhat.

get all your RH cd's ready...then get a copy of killdisk (www.killdisk.com), so you can completely erase your drive. Start up the comp, and quickly go into the BIOS, from there, change the boot order so it boots from CD first. Put the first RH cd in your drive, then reboot...the rest is just installation

I do not have my RH cd's yet, What do i download and how do i put it on disk correctly?

there are three files called ISOs. These are disk "images", or rather, the table of contents of a CD. Instead of burning folders upon folders and files upon files...you can burn this ONE ISO file and, when burned properly (there are options in nero and easycd creator, among others), there are all the files needed on the cd.

Okay, but there are 2 types of ISO on the site, RPMS or i386, and all i have to do is drag the ISO DISK 1 into the BLANK CD-R and it will do the rest?

you need the i386 .iso's

and no, there is a special way of burning ISOs (to read the file and burn the hierarchy properly).

What software are you using to burn cd-r's? Nero? Roxio EasyCDcreator?
