installation help needed
 

OK, I used synaptic installing stuff up to this point. Now I need to install a VPN client to access my university library netwoork. I downloaded a G zipped tar archive and extract it to a directory in my home folder. And than I am stuck. I do not know how to proceed with the installation. There is a vpn_install file that I can open as a text file but that doesn't help. Can you give me advice(exact steps even better) or refer me to some explanation how to proceed in this case.
Sorry for the basic question. Any help will be appreciated.

Isn't there a README or INSTALL text file after untarring the lot?

no, I don't see files like that. There is install_vpn file(plain text format), but it has code inside and the note - Linux vpn installation script.
Can you give any advice how to proceed(given that I am a newbie)?
