installation help
 

I am attempting to install Red Hat Linux 9 on my PC and just going through the first steps.
At the present I have a Windows XP. Therefore I partitioned my hard disk (using Partition Magic 7 and following the steps to partition for a Linux OS).
I have downloaded the 3 iso files from Red Hat to my hard disk.
I have copied each of these to a re-writable CD. But it says that iso-s are not copied to CDs like normal files. Do I need to extract these, or how do I copy them to the CDs. I am also not sure if my PC is bootable from the CD, but I do think so.
Can anyone help as to what my next step should be?

You need to copy them as CD Images. What software are you using to write to CD?

I am just using the default program that comes with Windows XP

IF you have Nero, Fireburner or some similar CD burning program on Windows you should be able to use a menu command that says something like "burn/copy the CD from an image".

Oh good lord! Don't use any default WindowsXP software. From what I've used, it just doesn't work properly, and is unflexible as a brick. You'd be better off downloading Fireburner which has a 15 day free trial, or some other freeware burning software, that might let you configure some of it's options.

I downloaded/installed nero. I guess I should choose the burn image option. Although there is another one, which says create bootable CD?

I just went through the same problem. You have to burn .iso images differently than normal data or audio cd's. Depending on the program you are using, there should be an option under the file menu to record the CD from an image. Choose this option and then pick the image from the explorer. That is all. When you are done burning, open the cd like normal and you should see a list of files and directories as opposed to an iso image. Good luck with the installation.
