installation hang when checking partition?
i just receive my new harddisk seagate ST340014A 7200rpm 40GB supporting ultra ATA, myself owns gigabyte GA5AX old motherboard with AMD k6-2 500MHZ CPU, using UDMA 66. i installed redhat 7.2,7.3 and 8.0 flawlessly on my old harddisk(seagate 5400rpm 40GB)
i try to install redhat8.0 on the new harddisk, installation hang after the computer startup, go through bios, extract kernel(little bit slow compare to normal extract speed), hang when the computer checking the partition something like this checking partition hda: then it hangs there, my windows 98 install/works fine harddisk surface scan without bad sector so i decided to try my luck on Redhat7.2, bootup/install sucessfully, but hangs again when reach the configure kernel parameter section anybody have any idea about this? is this hardware or software problem? or need special kernel parameter setting? hope somebody can help me on this thanks :D |
If you haven't figured it out yet, then try installing and switching between consoles with CTRL+F<number>, where number is 2, 3 and 4. Some of these consoles generate debug output that could be usefull in determining what;s going on. Also make sure you set conservative settings in your BIOS before installing, disabling any Plug 'n Pray settings.
