Question installation


Hi im a new Linux user and im having trouble instaling anything,
I have found that i can install .rpm's but i cant install anything else like http://www.kazaa.com/index.php?page=download and im running Mandrake 8.1 can anyone help me plz....................

.tar.gz files:

tar zxvf filename.tar.gz
cd filename
./configure
make
make install
well, that's the superstandard way, i expect that'll work with you, if not check the README file in the directory

sorry,,, that's just what you type...
Assuming your program is standard then you *should* be able to blindly type in those ocmmands in order, and at the end of it it should be installed. make sure you're in the same directory as the file you downloaded, and of course replace 'filename' with the appropriate name...

hmm.. how's i managed to post it twice??

Well i have just tryed doing that but still no success..................... I also have a new question when i try installing an .rpm it always says that it is already installed but i cant find it no where on the comp can u help? Thanks in advance
