install vlc
 

i am trying to install vlc player in my ubuntu 13. I have a vlc deb package which i tried to install. It got installed but when i tried to play mp3 files, then it doesnt got started.

Then i tried to install vlc with

command. It doesnot get installed ?

How can i run mp3 files in vlc ?

VLC is in the 'universe' repos, which you'll need to add to /etc/apt/sources.list.

You shouldnt need VLC to play MP3s, most/all the other players will play them as well, _if_ you've added MP3 support.
