Install Ubuntu via USB problems

So, I recently started the Linux install process, I used PendriveLinux to create a bootable USB stick and partitioned space for dual booting (with windows 8). However when I try to boot from the stick I get the GRUB menu and whenever I try to install I get a blank screen.
I think this is because I'm trying to boot to the partition with windows on it(right...?), so is there any way to tell GRUB which partition to boot to...?

A lot of latest generation computer comes with what's called UEFI secure boot. A lot of times, this prevents booting from outside source.
The chance is greater especially if you buy a computer that comes with Windows 8
Check your BIOS setting, and see if you have UEFI mode options. If so, switch to legacy mode.

Tell me how it goes :)

Just to clarify, the only operating system you now have on the computer is windows 8, correct?
When you try to boot the flash drive with Ubuntu, you say you get a 'grub' menu?? The flash drive uses syslinux/isolinux to boot and not Grub so I'm wondering where Grub would enter the process. Are you just seeing a menu or do you have some other operating system installed which uses Grub? When you get the boot menu, are you able to get to the Desktop where you have the option to begin the install? That's the way it reads. Does this mean when you click to install Ubuntu, you then get a blank screen?
