If you could tell us how it is packaged maybe we can help.

In the menu, Configuration -> Package Management -> Install Packages (or something like that, I haven't used Mandrake in a while). That will prompt you for your root password, enter it and you will now have a program called rpmdrake on your screen. From there you can search, browse, or install any the available packages.

The easiest way that I have found to install is to fire up Mandrake Control center and choose packaging as an option. That way I can run the updater first and then choose the packages I want without entering my root password twice. I read that other post and I think that a solution you may find is to uncheck everything but your cds as sources and install from that point of view. That will eliminate sources that haven't been compiled together. You should get positive results that way.

The two post's above, are pretty much on the mark. I'd also search for "easy urpmi", then when there, follow the instructions. If you add additional urpmi sources, when "rpmdrake+" looks at the mirror, you get the whole lot i.e. the contrib etc - and there's quite a few bits and bobs from the plf as well.

then you just install them as and when - oh and if you get problems with doing the stuff with easy urpmi, as in the mirrors don't respond or whatever (if you watch the urpmi.addmedia dialogue in the terminal - you will see if there's anything that it doesn't like) it's usually because the mirror isn't playing. Just let it finish, and then redo the easy urpmi instructions, but only for which ever item i.e. main, update, contrib etc etc didn't work - but using a different mirror.

Some of the urpmi source locations have more up to date versions of stuff (as in the plf has a few more up to date versions than say main).

Hope this helps

John
