install red hat 9

I am afraid I have fallen at the first hurdle.
I am attempting to install Red Hat 9 from cd. I have Partitionmagic and have created a Linux partition.
When I attempt to boot from the install CD it doesn't work and boots to XP.
I have checked my BIOS and it is set to boot from CD first. I have 2 CD drives and have tried them both.
I have tried restart boot and boot from shutdown. No luck.
Have I got dodgy disks? Is there a way I can create a floppy and boot from that?
My version is Red Hat 9 supplied with "Red Hat Linux 9 for dummies" (Sadly appropriate I fear!)
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards
Andrew

if your bios can't boot from CD, then normally on the install CD there will be a dosutils directory or somethign along those lines, which will contain floppy disk images and such like.

You should be able to find many boot disk images online. With Windows, you will probably have to use a utility like RawWrite in order to create your floppy boot disks correctly. Also, why are you going to install Red Hat 9? You should look at Fedora Core instead, unless you need RH 9 for some reason.

Red Hat 9

Thanks to both for advice. I'll give it a go.
Err....it was reduced in price!

I think, u will get an option to check the media before u start the installation, don't skip that, check the media, may be some problem with ur CD-ROM ..

Also try Smart Boot Manager at

http://linux.simple.be/tools/sbm

It is a program that can be used to persuade reluctant devices to boot. download it and write the file to a floppy with either rawwright on windows or dd in linux.

Good luck.

ps I think Red Hat 9 is still good despite being a little long in the tooth. :)
