install problem
I just attempted to install fedora 3 on my desktop. I do the CD check for the DVD which is a commercial DVD that comes with the Fedora 3 Unleashed Book. The media check comes back OK. The install starts and I get as far as the keyboard setup when I get a couple of weird error messages. The first is: Assertion head > 0 at disk_dos c.485 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. The second is essentially the same except that it begins with: assertion sectors c <= 63 at disc_dos.c 490. After which, it goes out of the gui and tells me the install failed
I've installed various versions of Windows dozens of times without any problem. Why does linux give a cryptic message without any explanation of how to resolve it? Does anybody know how to resolve it? This definitely dampens my enthusiasm for learning linux. It doesn't seem like a very user-friendly OS.
I am installing it on a working Dell Dimension 8100 that is running Windows XP and has 2 hard drives.
