install on a laptop
I'm not sure if this matters or not, but I would like to install linux on a laptop, b/c I have a bit of a space issue. I used to have a mandrake install on my desktop, but i blew that away to add more filespace for my home movies. So, I'm planning on looking on either ebay or pricewatch for something, useful but cheap.
I have 2 main questions: 1) Does linux install okay on laptops, or does this create hardware problems? If yes or no, does anyone recommend a basic setup other than just the OS sys req's? 2) Does anyone recommend a flavor that runs particularly well on a laptop? I've heard some very good things about gentoo, but i don't know. Should I stick with either a redhat or mandrake install, since I would say I am still in the end user/newbie classification? Thanks for your help. |
Hi jipib
There's a big Laptop section at the top of the Hardware section on this site - there's relevant info there. I'd steer clear of Gentoo if your relatively new to Linux - try Red Hat or Mandrake |
