Welcome to LQ. .. .. :) ..

No, it is not an advantage to mix the patches / extra files on a single ns2.
Much better to have two ( or more ) optimized for the special functions.
1) The patches are meant for a specific version.
2) And may be the compiled binary ( ns ) cannot work with the mixed files.
Example :
A mobiwan patched ns (2.33) cannot handle default files, only "mobiwan.tcl".

It is no problem having two or more ns-allinone-2.xx at the same time.
I have eight different on this system : /home/knudfl/ns2/ns-allinone-2.xx/.
One is an LTE patched ns-2.29.3 .

If you have more questions, then please tell, which Linux OS, you are using.

To Tinkster - I posted in both English AND French because I wasn't sure if the OP knew english or not good enough to edit his post to reflect what I asked him. Why is it wrong to do the right thing? I really need to hear this one...

archtoad6 03-24-2011 09:23 AM

I read the French before it disappeared & I have to wonder: "Is this homework?"

knudfl 03-24-2011 12:24 PM

Post # 5, @archtoad6 : No, definitely not.

Except that all these many ns2 net-simulator projects usually are student projects.

It was a question about which version of ns2 could be used for the projects.
I.e. can one version be used for files written for another version.

Please read post # 3.

I did, but out of context. :)

Hi Josh,

Shhttt, don't upset the mod(s). Same thing was done to me for being polite and trying to help, and after sending a PM to the mod asking for some explanation not even got a reply. Not mentioning when or who to keep a low profile.

Kind regards,

Eric

Exactly. I guess we are hated?

corp769 03-25-2011 04:27 PM

For the record, me and Eric are still awaiting of a reply from a certain mod.

Smile when you say that, Pilgrim. :) (I.e. not at all; at least not by me & I doubt by anyone else.)

The short answer is that the short answer isn't good enough & the long answer takes too long, so silence is the result.

Maybe more later -- out of time. :)

corp769 03-25-2011 06:14 PM

On these forums, I always smile :D

EricTRA 03-26-2011 12:07 AM

Hi,

It's like the song I guess, silence is golden or something like that. I'm not in a hurry anymore, after waiting months (if I'm not mistaking) for an answer to my PM. Already formed my opinion about that one particular person. Moving on. Not worth the trouble.

Kind regards,

Eric

corp769 03-26-2011 12:08 AM

Yeah same here, but it just gets annoying some times ;)

EricTRA 03-26-2011 12:10 AM

Hi Josh,

Sh*t happens in the virtual world a lot more than in real life. Difference is it would be dealt with differently in real life, right? LOL (no mod_edit available in real life is there?).

Kind regards,

Eric
