Install HCF driver from TAR package
 

Hello all,
I'm trying to install a driver for a HCF modem but I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. I downloaded the TAR package onto a disk while in Windows and it appears to be there when I mount the disk while running Linux BUT the instructions are rather vague and I have never installed anything in Linux! Anyone care to give me a more detailed play by play than the instructions found at:

1. extract the package with "tar -xzf hcflinmodem-<version>.tar.gz"

2. change to the package directory with "cd hcflinmodem-<version>"

3. run "make install" from the top of the package directory.

4. run "hcfconfig" to complete the installation and configure your modem.

I was looking for a little more of a detailed explanation because I really am a Newbie and I have virtually no experience with Linux. So now that I have downloaded the driver onto a disk what should I do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Move the driver from the disk to your home directory and then open a terminal and do step one followed by step two, then you should change to root with the su command and do step three and then step four.............:study:

Anyway, what does: 3) run "make install" from the top of the package directory actually entail. I tried typing in "make install" after changing to the package directory (as root)but I'm guessing that this is not what I need to be doing.
Help would be wonderful!
