Install from USB Stick
Hi all.
I want to install Debian Sarge to my laptop computer, however it seems that my CD-rom is gone dead, so i am unable to install from CD. I have an 64 Mb USB Stick, and I have downloaded the Sarge buisness card iso. Is there a way to make the stick bootable with this ISO, and can it be done in windows XP? Araldit |
I think the first question is whether or not your laptop can boot from a USB device. If it can't, herein ends the questioning.
However, if it can... This link has some information on how to make Damn Small Linux / Knoppix bootable from a USB pen drive. Since your ISO's already small enough, you could just try uncompressing the ISO onto your pen drive, using `syslinux /dev/your_pen_drive` to create a mbr on the pen drive, plug it in and see what happens ;) note: syslinux is a linux-only command...I'm not sure how to do something like that in XP. Do you have a friend's computer or something you could run it from? |
Heres a link to install Debian on a usb stick
http://d-i.pascal.at/ But RoseBud is right, you aren't going to do this in XP and you need to check to see if the bios on the laptop supports USB booting. |
