Install disc for MP3 player won't work
 

I'm trying to run the install CD that came with my Sandisk Sansa mp3 player, and am having problems. I'm using Fedora 19. Here's what happens: I open Files and click on the link for the CD drive under Devices. A window pops up that contains three icons: autorun.inf, fscommand, and sansa-installer.exe. I click on sansa-installer.exe. I get Archive Manager Reading "sansa-installer.exe". About a minute later, I get the message, "an error occurred while loading the archive." I did a bit of googling, and was given to understand that exe files will not run in Linux by default because exe is a Windows command, not a Linux command. Is that correct? What do I need to do? It seems I may need to run wine, and I've downloaded a tar file containing wine, but I'm still trying to figure out how to work with the tar file. Someone please point me in the right direction.

Sounds like you're trying to install Windows software under Linux. If your MP3 player is setup to be run in disk mode versus MTP mode you shouldn't need to load anything...

I plugged the MP3 player into a usb port and saw SanDisk Sansa Clip under Devices. Clicked on SanDisk Sansa Clip and got this: Unable to access "Sandisk Sansa Clip+" Unable to open MTP device '[usb:001, 003]'

Go to the the system settings on the player and change the USB mode to MSC vs MTP. I have the exact same player. You can get a player working in MTP mode but for getting music on it, MSC mode is easier as it's just seen as a drive. Banshee is probably the best music manager to use with portable players in my experience. Managing portable music players is a weak spot in Linux - nothing comes even close to Winamp under Windows - which is what I still use to manage my players...

Switching to MSC allowed me to access the drive. Thanks!
