install debian without grub

Hi

I'm new to the world of linux. I decided to take the big step, now I chose the debian version for its stability and not wanting to change it every 6 months. I'm getting ready as a virtual machine so I don't do anything stupid when I install debian on my real machine. But I have a serious problem I saw that it was possible to start from EFI. I followed some tutorials and on the archlinux wiki. But without result it doesn't work: / Finally I don't know if it works by being on virtualbox. I have enabled EFI options in the virtualbox settings. I created 2 partitions, one 256M EFI and the other 34GB. I need to connect in chroot I did not install bootloader (FAIL) If you can help me, it would be really nice. Thank you

Sorry about my English, I don't really speak English. I have to use a translator

When you say you did not install the bootloader, does that mean you 'chose' not to install it or that the installation failed? I don't use DEbian but the link to the Debian wiki below provides a lot of information you can review until some Debian user posts.

Hello I decided not to install it. But I can't get it started even when I look at your link: / Yet I do exactly what he says I do.

If you chose not to install the Grub bootloader, how were you expecting to boot it if you installed Debian?

That wiki is many pages long so you would need to post specifically, each command you tried and the result.

Every operating system needs a boot loader, even Apple and Windows. Those two just assume that they will alone on the machine, so their bootloaders operate in the background.

You can either reinstall Debian and install GRUB (which is probably the easiest option) or you can install GRUB directly. This article from Ubuntu will give you some ideas: http://howtoubuntu.org/how-to-repair...ubuntu-live-cd

Welllll ....
That's not true for Linux - it can incorporate an EFISTUB in the kernel and be directly loaded by the firmware without the assistance of a boot-loader/manager.

I would doubt a default Debian install would be so accommodating. Not to mention dual-boot entanglements.
Short answer, as others have said, install grub.

I (happily) stand corrected.
