Install constantly failing media check

Fedora newbie here, I'm having major problems burning my iso's and getting them to pass the install media check.

I've downloaded the iso's a few times and checksum'd them they've all passed, the downloads were performed on a WinXp SP1 machine which is also the machine I'm burning them on using a Samsung 32xwrite/40xread DVD/CDRW drive. I'm then trying to install fedora on an old PII 320mhz 500mb mem PC I have using a Phillips PCRW2412 24x12x40, I've tried many different combo's of burn speeds when creating the install cd's all to no avail my cd's constantly fail the media check, any help gratefully received!!

Cheers
Dan

How do you burn the CDs ?
Which program are you using ?

You may also want to rule out a dodgy Phillips drive by swapping it out with the drive you burnt the CD's with.

I'm using nero to produce the cd's and I have tried the device from my XP machine in the old machine it still failed, I've also swapped IDE cables etc etc. Could it be the spec of the old machine??

Do the CD's you burnt load on another machine? I know that might be hard, but it might rule out the blank CD's (i.e. cheap media)

Can you boot at all from the CDs ??
Can you boot from them on your Win XP machine (so the one where you have created them) ?
Can you boot from the CDs on your target system (so the one where you intend to install the CDs) ?

If you can boot, what point are you reaching ? Can you see at least the installation menu/screen ?

I've just managed to install fedora using the same media on a machine I have at work (much better spec). So I guess it must be something to do with the spec or quality of my old PC at home.

On the old machine I can use the media to get to the first fedora install screen then when I type linux mediacheck all cd's allways fail the media check.

Any ideas??

I have found that many CD burners often have trouble burning at their advertised top speeds, thus leaving you with a bunch of coasters. You might want to try setting the burn speed to something much slower, like 4X or 8X, no matter fast your CD-RW is supposed to be. Also, as Baldrick suggested, if you are using no-name, bargain-basement blanks, you're much more likely to run into problems than if you use a quality, name brand such as TDK, Maxell, etc. -- J.W.
