Install Chrome on latest Debian
I am trying to leave my lover (osx) because I no longer believe what she tells me. But I am having a hell of a time with linux.
I must have a messed up debian installation, but it is the latest debian and everything works just fine unless I try to install something. Even for big sexy blockbuster packages there is always some problem, some dependency that is not there and not a lot of hand holding. Take Google Chrome for example. I web search for download Chrome debian and I find a nice official Google page that yeilds a file : google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb Nice looking file sittin there on my hard drive, and as a mac user I try to double click it! Then I search and find that I should do a $ dpkg. My attempt yeilded the following. I had a similar experience with Mint when using a deb file. The real way to install google chrome is with a PPA package.

i think the larger question here is: do you really need chrome? there's a reason why chrome is not in the repositories of any distro (i'm aware of). couldn't you use chromium instead? |
hawkiboy, read your other thread. Your system is broken because you mixed Jessie and Sid repositories. Until you get that fixed, you're SOL. Chrome browser is available either through the Debian repositories or from Google. Either way, you have to fix your system. My advice is to bite the bullet now and do a complete reinstall, and decide if you want Jessie or Sid. At your level of knowledge, I seriously urge you to use Jessie. Sid is not for newbies, it's for testing packages before they even go into Testing, and it can break without warning. Install a standard Jessie version and learn to use it before you try anything else.

I think I download the .deb from google site and let it install. I have debian 8 that has been upgraded from 7. (although I don't like doing that but I was in a hurry)
