RHEL seems to support in-place upgrade now. So why not instead read the relevant documentation and upgrade or install CentOS 7?..

RHEL 7 / CentOS 7 are based on Fedora 19 and kernel 3.10. Not kernel 3.16. Long story short, "Enterprise Linux" means you only should update it with officially released packages from RHEL. Kernel 3.16 may work on CentOS 7 but I would never ever install it on RHEL 6.5.

I'm sure that dmesg, log files in /var/log/, insmod and iwconfig output will show you clues as to what to do next (so post them, next to the commands for loading the correct modules and enabling Wifi on the command line). I'll try and help but you should remember that by doing what you did you basically are SOL. Understand?
