install centos 6.3 problems
 

Hi

I,m trying to install centos, I can run it from live dvd, if I select the option boot with minimal graphics it will load, if I just let it boot from dvd as normal boot the resolutions are wrong. Is there anyway to install with minimal graphics so maybe i can fix the graphics issue

It is funny and ironic because I choose cent OS over Ubuntu because centos only supported my Nvidia graphics card. Mine is geforce fx 6300 and its old.
The point that I am getting is that try installing your graphics driver. Disable norveau driver which is centos default driver. Look for online solution.

The problem is I cant get the desktop to show any icons start bars, I get the back ground only. If I use getty all I get is a flashing cursor no prompts at all?

I'm not the expert with Centos but if the GUI wasn't installed this SOLVED Centos thread should help.

by chance is this a laptop ?
or a desktop with an ATI/AMD 3d card or "chip" ( laptop chip on a desktop)

Yes it is a laptop with external monitor, (Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller)
Centos will load via the grapahical installer without errors, When I reboot after install I get the gui but it is black with a black mouse pointer. There are no top and bottom panels no icons on desktop, The mouse gose off the screen to the left "as if it was still the desktop, The tty only gives a blinking cursor No prompt and will not except any input.
I have also tried fedora and the same thing happens.
It will run from live dvd if the option of boot with minimal graphics is selected

Problem solved I added nomodeset to grub
