install a second hdd


i know this post has come up before but everytime I search for it i get ow to dual boot. Can someone please help me find a step bystep method to installing a second HDD in ubuntu 12.04 server. i needed a file storage server so I scrapped up some parts and insalled ubunttu 12.04, but when it installes it sees the second drive but does not utilize the second drive at all.

In order to use it you need to make sure it has a filesystem on it, then you have to mount it somewhere, then it can be used to store data.
You would usually do this by partitioning with fdisk, creating a file system with something like mkfs.ext4, then mounting it to where you want to use it.
To mount it permanently you would add and entry to /etc/fstab.

thats what I need is a goode step by step to installing it from the fdisk to the editing the fstab file. I am so use to using windows I don't know where to start.

Typing it all out would take me all day, but here are the steps:
Using fdsik:

Only you will know for certain which file system you want to use but for two of the the most common:
http://linux.die.net/man/8/mkfs.ext3
http://linux.die.net/man/8/mkfs.ext4
To understand fstab:
