Install a huawei 3g modem on Backtrack 5

I called my service provider and they told me that my kernel version 2.6.38 cannot support a modem. Is it true or is there anyone who has installed a modem? I have two E160 and E1750 modems.
Somebody help me with the commands on how to install please I cannot do anything without internet.
I am using a desktop PC

Hello,

Have a look at the very bottom of this page at "Similar Threads" - Check them out and report back if you have found your answer within one of them.

Open a terminal with the modem plugged in and use the command "lsusb". Look for a listing of the modem as a device in the form, ID xxxx:xxxx. Go to the Internet, search with the ID number to find out how this device is supported in linux, and how to get the dial-up to your Internet service provider with linux .

You probably need to use USB_ModeSwitch, and probably need to compile it yourself for it to work with your kernel. There is help, information, and a forum at the Draisberghof site.

Please post your thread in only one forum. Posting a single thread in the most relevant forum will make it easier for members to help you and will keep the discussion in one place. This thread is being closed because it is a duplicate.
