What is the make of your ethernet card? Did you get any errors when installing your distro? Did you check the md5sums of your isos (if you downloaded)?

I am not connected to the internet. I am on satallite internet and Starband is not compatible with Linux. I don't know what md5sums? are nor -isos -I am new and dumb

How do you connect to the internet? Do you use your ethernet (aka network) card or something else?

An iso is the image file which is used to make the cds - if you bought your distro, you won't need to worry about them. Ditto the md5sums. How did you come across your distro? - bought, donated, etc

What make and model is your video card?

Try to disable Network Hot-Plugin when you install MDK.. You will find it in configuration section in network

And di the help given in this thread work?

Please don't keep opening threads with the same subjecy. If you aren't happy with the help you are given, it is far more polite to say so with your reasons. Abandoning threads helps no one.

I bought my install-there are two installation cd's, i made a clean install, no partition- I have an ethernet card in my pc, but i am not able to connect to the internet with linux because my internet provider do'es not recognize Linux, I thought i would just download it and try to learn a little about it. But so far am not able to get it to boot all the way because it just stops after it says bringing up interface etho-failed--When i purchased the cd's --Mandrake 10.0- it said there would be no problems, Mandrake was the easiest to download.-But so far that is not true.--Thanks--

you could try having a look in your bios and see if it is set to plug and play if so try disabling it. If u can then boot up u can go to mandrake control centre >network connections>manage connections and disable hotplugging from there as has already been mentioned. What type of network card have u got?
As for ur isp not being compatible with linux... not many are in the fact that they don`t provide user help for linux related problems, in reality u should still be able to connect to the internet with them..... what type of system are u using to connect to the internet at the moment?

elmorgo 09-10-2004 03:22 PM

ethernet

i am connected with starband satellite internet-two way high speed -same as dsl- i cannot connect with them running Linux- the modem i use is not configured for Linux

Have just had a look around google about your internet problem with starband it would seem that u can connect using internet connection sharing if u network to a windoze machine although from the links below there are others that have been able to connect directly...albeit a bit complicated but u may want to try it for yourself at some point when u have got to grips with linux :-)

As for your original question try the suggestions in previous post to see how that goes :-)
