Inspiron 600m Drivers Issues

I have just scrapped Windows XP from my Dell Inspiron 600m and have installed Fedora 8. Unfortunately, Fedora does not seem to recognize the wireless card or the modem to be able to connect to the internet. I believe this is because in removing Windows, I also would have removed the drivers as the BIOS reverted to an older version. I downloaded the Drivers for all the hardware from the Dell Support site and transferred it, but Fedora doesn't seem to want to run the drivers. Can anybody please explain to me what is going on?

Thank you.

Removing Windows certainly would have removed the Windows drivers, but the BIOS should be exactly as it was. Nothing about any Linux install I'm aware of would touch the BIOS.

The only drivers you're likely to find on the Dell site are Windows drivers and those don't work under Linux. Linux is a completely different OS with its own drivers.

Now, given that Dell has a strong penchant for Broadcom wireless cards, I suspect that's what you've got and that would also be the reason it doesn't work. However, to be sure, we need you to open a console and run the lspci command. That will list the hardware on your PCI bus and it will likely identify the wireless card you've got. If you don't understand what you're seeing, copy the output and post it here for us to look at.
