Can't download scangear mp All the ones for linux say 3.20-1-deb. tar-gz is not a debian package.
|
It's an archive package containing the install script and Debian packages. It gets downloaded first then you extract it, either by fight clicking on the file and selecting 'Extract here', or from a terminal change to the directory where the archive file located then do something like
Code:
tar -xzvf file-name.deb.tar.gz file-name.deb
and install with
Code:
sudo dpkg -i file-name.deb

Trying to download open office to see if that will work.

That won't fix your scanning problem at all.

This question from post#2 is still relevant. You show as Ubuntu, but maybe that means diddly-squat.

More information would be helpful.

No, you need to install the proprietary driver package as already explained. It's not SANE compatible, so the normal SANE scannining apps can't be used with it. Instead it comes with it's own dedicated scangearmp application. If you want help, you need to answer questions and provide requested info, otherwise you'll go round in circles on this.

Hard to tell what you did without being over your shoulder.
1) Please tell us the distro and version (as already requested).
2) What is reported by the following command (with printer attached and turned on)?
Code:
/usr/lib/cups/backend/usb

I returned the printer scanner. Because it won't even print from libre now. I have no idea what distro is. I preferred linux, because I was able to do what I want, windows will not. I intend to work on getting 14.04 installed. I had 14.04 before & worked great. If not I will go back to windows. Thank all of you who have tried to help. Linux is/was a great program. Thanks
