Input/Output error

I'm trying to copy a file to /usr/lib/ while logged in as root, X not running. I keep getting the error: '/usr/lib/libGL.so.1.0.4496': Input/Output error

Any ideas?

Run fsck on the partition (when it's not mounted - from boot disk or installation cd in rescue mode). Do you run framebuffer? It's shouldn't produce such error, but maybe...

What is framebuffer and how do I know if I'm running it?

Also, this seems to be the only file (this and a similar nvidia file) that this is happening with.

I tried to run fsck in rescue mode from the install cd (I haven't made a rescue disk, witing til I have a working install first.) and it returned bash: fsck: command not found.

Short of reinstalling the os, any other suggestions?

Non-standard, high-res text mode (standard is 40x25 characters).

Boot the installation cd in rescue mode again, then type
fsck<press tab here>
Do you get a list of possibilities? Which distro does the cd belong to?
