Initialisation string

I've been having trouble connecting to the internet in Mandrake 9.0 I finally got a reply from my ISP suggesting that I am using the wrong initialisation string. They also said I could find the initialisation string I need in my windows settings, but they didnt say where. I'm using Windows XP Pro and Windows 98. Can someone tell me where I would find this information in either of those? Thanks.

in windows it's in the configure button where you pick the modem for your connection, in linux it could be anywhere depending on which program is used to dial, but it maybe in the /etc/ppp/peers/.... files on the "chat" line.

Yeah I did find that in Windows before I posted. Trouble is I could only figure out how to add initialisation strings, not view the one its currently using.

EDIT: Nevermind, I finally worked it out. All i needed to do was edit the modem commands, and change the initialisation string from "ATZ" to "ATZ1". I'm now online with Linux typing this. Thanks to everyone who helped me with this in my numerous threads.
