init 0 and halt not working on system

Hi,

whenever i run shutdown -h now or init0 on my fedora core 2
system hangs at the following line
INIT:no more processes left in the run level.
and i have to manually shut it down
Check if following lines can be a help
/sbin/halt: line 1:lrwxrwxrwx:command not found
/sbin/halt: line 1: halt: Read only file system
