Informattive-- Linux install on oldWorld power macs

Just to get some information out there for anyone trying to install Linux on a mac, specifically an oldWorld mac ppc machine I thought I direct them to the linuxquestions wiki I just wrote.

http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/..._oldworld_macs

Hope this helps someone. Let me know if it does would be happy to know I made someones day easier.

I think all of the the iMacs are new world machines, or was I wrong about that?

You are correct about iMacs being new world machines, however, some of the information is still applicable. Though quick can be used on new world machines which allows you to entirely get rid of the Mac OS partition. The Kernel arguments for booting 2.6 series kernels I believe are still applicable though. Because the 2.6 kernel needs an initial Ramdisk to perform something though I forget what I found out after extensive research.

Thanks for the info. It's been awhile since I had to insta;ll Linux on any Mac, but it's good to know there are guides out there. Thanks for writing up your findings!

I run ubuntu hardy on my imac. The video was fun to fix, but I plan to have ompiz working soon on it i hope.
