Increasing swap space on a Mac Book

Hi,
I am new and not sure if I am right here. I am working with an old PC with Linux wirth a phylogeny programe(ARB)for some years but didnt install it myself, but my son did. Now I am also working on a Mac Book with this Phylogeny program ARB and want to open a big database. But the Mac canīt open it due to to little swap memory. does anybody know how I can see how much swap memory I have and how to increase on a Mac Book? It has a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo System.

Thanks,
Anja

What do mean by swap memory ?
Do you a Apple icon left on the screen ?
There is option there called about this MAC
Click on it and than choose more info .
It gives a lot of info about you're MAC including you're memory
Which MAC OS are you running Tiger , leopard , snow leopard.
If you are running snow leopard and you're is EFI64 and you still have free slots in that case you can upgrade the memory

From

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/...swap_file.html

"Note: Unlike most UNIX-based operating systems, Mac OS X does not use a preallocated swap partition for virtual memory. Instead, it uses all of the available space on the machine*s boot partition."

So maybe your real problem is not enough disk space? You CAN move swap to another drive.
