Increasing speed of writing to USB drive

I have installed Mandriva One and have updated most of the software available.

I see that the transfer rate to USB is too slow after the updation and it takes more than 1 minute to write a 100 KB file.

Is any software installation interfering in the writing speed.

CD or DVD burning speed is OK

Can this be corrected for the USB drive. What are the commands or amendments to be made?

Help needed

Ah, I encountered this problem too, some days ago on my opensuse machine. It is strange because it was a new problem which came without any software update and went away the next day. So I guess it was some hardware problem.

But try this: it is possible that your computer has many USB ports, some of them are USB 1 some are USB 2 (2 being the faster one). If you have attached your disk to USB 1 port, the speed will be too slow. (Actually on windows, it informs you that your disk can support USB 2 and is in USB 1 port bla bla)

Often the USB ports near the PS2 keyboard and mouse connections are slow and can be used by USB keyboards/mise. Try another port.
You could check in the BIOS settings, if USB ports are enabled for the highest speed.
