Increase the no of Files opened

hello all,

The script I am using needs a large no of file to be open at a shot say around 50000(for faster execution) but linux as such limits to 1024 . I have tried exceeding this by increasing the ulimit in /etc/initscript but this help me in succeeding by increasing the no of open files to 5000.

Any suggestions ?

i am using Fedora 8.

Best regards,
Titus
