In /var log folder is missing
Hi all
I am using centos 5.5 version,
My problem is i cant found log folder in /var directory. due to this i am unable to start or stop squid service.
The Error is showing like this, while i restart the squid service...
#service squid restart
Stopping squid: /etc/init.d/squid: line 98: /var/log/squid/squid.out: No such file or directory
[FAILED]
Starting squid: /etc/init.d/squid: line 69: /var/log/squid/squid.out: No such file or directory
[FAILED]
Then i restarted the system then i got another problem, iam unable to enter into graphical mode.
This was the error i got after restart the system.
Failed to start the X server (your graphical user interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem.
After that, I followed the instructions showed by this error still iam getting same problem.
so i replaced the system with another as proxy server the next day exact same problem occured.
iam using this as my proxy server in office there is no internet due to this problem
please help,
give ur solutions step by step that i can understand easily.
Thanks
suresh

Create this directory as root. I suppose some broken script delete it, so search it in cron tasks, booting scripts, etc. If not found, maybe create somewhere hardlinks to logs, to read them after deleting this directory.

Cent5.5 is unsupported ( and has been for over a year )
please stay current and upgrade to 5.7 or 5.8 ( if it is out)
the error says it all

/var/log/squid/squid.out: No such file or directory
