in redhatlinux systems seems to be working very slow

Dear friends,
i installed redhat linux allocating 3.5 GB out of 20GB,rest of them for the Windows XP in which i have already installed.but my systems seems to be working very slow in GUI mode Linux,but when i connected to the internet i can able to access the page fast.could u suggest some methods to improve the speed of linux.

can you please be more specific, what exactly is slow about your system?
also more information about your hardware is helpfull?
details about your partitions would also help.

tvsskumar, I think you should firstcheck which processes you're running. During installation distributions tend to configure many programs to start at boot. But you don't need many of them.

Open a terminal and run 'top' inside. It'll show you a list of most processor- and memory-hungry applications you have running. Do you know them all? If not, post the list and someone will tell you which of them you can stop.
