I use Evolution to download my emails.
Where do I find the folder under / or /root in which to import my emails from my inbox.
I would like to transfer my emails from my user's Evolution inbox to my Evolution inbox when I log in as root.
Evolution has an import feature (file --> import).
The folder is located in: ~/.evolution/mail/local
(the last part of the path could be different)
In another account (e.g. root) you can import this folder.
You would need to try if copying/syncing the whole ~/.evolution folder would work - it _could_ be tricky if you want to use the same mail-account from both root and your normal users account.
Backtrace was generated from '/opt/gnome/bin/evolution-2.8'

After you have "synced" the mail-folder from "root"?
If yes - how did you do it?
It is not a cure for everything but - since there are no debug infos there - I'd consider upgrading gnome as well as evolution.
Your Gnome is 2.16 from 2006 and evolution is of version 2.8.
Current gnome and evolution is 2.22
...next to that you should not treat user root as any other regular user account in the sense of using it for day to day tasks. The best way is to forward root e-mail to a user designated to read root e-mail and reserve the root account solely for system maintenance and those tasks that require root access rights.
By the way, when I first use Evolution, I log in as a KDE user and not as a Gnome user. Does this cause Evolution to crash? But even now if I log in as
a Gnome user and starts Evolution it crashes.
