im using RH 8.... how can i remove the translucent box when i highlight on desktop?

I'm assuming, don't know for sure, that he's talking about the selection box in Gnome, instead of being just a black outline the box is filled with a bluish color. I have no idea how to get rid of it if that is what is being asked, let alone why it's even a problem.
