Start thingy then Configuration then Mandrake Control Center. Click on Network and Internet then DrakConnect. Should be able to walk through from there.

Welcome to Linux land. Take your time, you'll get to love it.

ok, i diddnt want to start a new thread, i am having the exact same problem. I am using an Epox 8RDA+ mobo (nForce2) and I have DL'd the appropriate .rpm package (I THINK????) for this mobo. the actual file is only 80kb, thats awfully small?? well i right click and click "install" and asks pass for root, which i enter, then I hit OK and it installs.... but it seems like nothing happens....

and I still dont know how to configure my internet? how do i even know my network is set up and the driver is working properly? I am behind a Router and on DHCP... please help

and how do I use a .run file?

I have read alot of information today, but nothing clearly explains on how to use a .run file :(

Usually if there is a problem it will pop up, that is usually.

Go into a terminal, start thingy then Terminals then Konsole(super user mode) then cd to the right directory where the file is. If it is on the desktop then it should be /home/<username>/Desktop. Replace <username> with the name you login as and note the case. The D in Destop is usually upper case. It must match. When you get to where the file is you can type in ls (small L) and that will list what is there, same thing a dir is dos. Then type in this

Code:

rpm -i <filenamehere>
If there is a problem it should give a pretty good error message. Post it here and we'll see what we can do.

oldboy,

No clue really. I'm on dial-up.

Hope that helps, one of you anyway.

I just got a dell 2600 to put up a server on the net. I bought RH Linux on
4 c.d.s. The Dell configured the Raid, formatted and partitioned the drive.
RH loaded itself(practicaly). Once I figured how to start X, every thing was
just like w2000. I dont know any thing about Linux, but they are sure making it easy...

thank you. it says the .rpm file is installed. but my internet is still not working under the linux OS :(

I have gone into the internet config section... but i guess im so retarded as to why i cant get the internet to work :(

and how do i install the .run file? that one is for my geforce3ti500 card

and, again ty for your help.

dalek 11-16-2003 12:27 AM

root term as before then type in

Code:

You did reboot I assume. There are commands that will load them with out a reboot, I never can remember those things.

hmmm. Is that .run file the NVIDIA video drivers? If so read this.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ticle&artid=30

That will help walk you through it.

voodooutt 11-16-2003 12:43 AM

woot.. i actually got it to work.

now it says:

No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site; this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for your kernel

I need this in english..... wtf that mean??

edit: well, i should say that my internet dont work yet under the linux, so of course it would say it cant find a kernel at nvidia's FTP site lol

What are you trying to install? Name of the file may help.

Not real sure on that error message yet.

im trying to install the correct driver for my video card (geforce3ti500)
and now, trying to get my internet to work

dalek 11-16-2003 01:03 AM

For the NVIDIA video driver, you need to follow that how to linked to above. It can be a bit fussy. You can't install it when x is running.

If you have broadband, I'm at a loss except to do it through Mandrake Control Center. I wish I had DSL, then I could help on that.

Look at this link and see if it helps. Otherwise maybe someone with a similiar setup will come along.

ok, when i goto the network & internet config i press the "configure hostname" button and set my hostname, DNS server and Gateway (which my gateway IS my router)

I hit finish, I reboot and then the DNS server defaults to 127.0.0.1

why is this happening?

I try the "launch wizard" and select the "use auto detection" and then it goes to the "choose the connection you want to configure" I then choose "LAN connection" and hit next, then it says "we are going to configure the lan connection" i hit the next button again and it jumps right back to the "choose the connection you want to configure" screen again.

I have no idea whats going on here... it seems to be straight forewards, but..... how do I even know my actual Ethernet connection is working? Int the main DrakConnect screen theres absolutely nothing under the "Internet access" part.

Please help

EDIT: i started a new thread:
