Im an Idiot. Help!
Alright first off sorry for this post i knew this would happen but i continued to dig my own grave anyway. I used partion magic 8 to remove my Linux partition forgetting that Grub was the boot loader for WindowsXP/SuSe and now when i go to start my computer i cant login into windows because i removed my Linux partition. i get a "Grub version 0.93" with a message saying "[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename. ]" I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it so i can load my windows partition.. or will tossing in my windows xp disk and doing a repair through the windowxp disck fix my boot problem? again i apologize for being an idiot.

Welcome to LQO :)
Glad to have you. We'll get this taken care of for ya :) Put in your XP CD and when it boots up choose repair console. Log on as Administrator or someone with admin rights. Type ' FIXMBR ' and answer yes. After this you may also have to boot your PC off of something like a Windows 98 boot disk and do fdisk and then make your WinXP partition active (option 2 in fdisk). With Slackware and Redhat I can do all of this just by doing fdisk /mbr and then going in and making my Windows partition active :) Hope this helps dude. Later, Whitehat |
Thank you abunch!
I pretty much figured using the windows xp repair feature would work but i don't think i woulda found the FIXMBR part on my own :) I didn't have to do anything else it worked right after i clicked yes for fixmbr and rebooted. Thanks abunch :) double thanks on the win98 part i actually found were my old copy was collecting dust. Much Appreciated :) -Didlin |
