Ifup: could not get a valid server name

One more problem:
I have a pci network card and integrated card on my system, with a DSL modem going to router before going to the pci nic card. The card is a D-link card. On boot up when it trys to connect to a IP address I get the error message "Ifup: could not get a valid interface name" message. Once the system has started I can go to YAST2 click on the network card, it runs some stuff and then, hey presto I can access the internet. How can I configure it so that on boot up it will load a valid interface name?
The card is named eth1 by the system the old intergrated card is eth0. I am running suse 8.1 with kde 3.0.
Sorry to be a bug
I am using DHCP to give IP addresses
