If PPP the only access to 'net, need to set loopback on network card? Won't browse
Hi,
I don't use my network card at the moment until I get another wall socket, router and broadband modem to replace mobile broadband, which requires PPP dialup.
I heard a Slackware user say that you need to set the network card on loopback for PPP, but he doesn't know how to do this in Crunchbang or Ubuntu or its derivatives.
I can setup the mobile broadband connection, but it won't browse, just lookup crunchbang.org and never get passed that (I didn't look at the error message - I suppose it says failed to lookup/resolve host). Often the hostname is unresolvable with sudo too.

Reason: claryfication for loopback usage
