I just installed Slackware 9 Linux. When I do something to make it beep a few times in a row (e.g. holding backspace down at an empty prompt, holding down the arrow keys after hitting the ends of a man page), my computer spontaneously reboots. It just blinks out with no warning or hesitation, and restarts.

Unrelated (?) but while I'm here - what's with all the "iblocks should be such-and-such - fixing - restarting"?

try compiling you own kernel to make sure it will work for your computer,

and i dono what iblocks are but it might be somthing having to do with a FS

I suspect that you have some sort of hardware problem. The first thing I would do is open up the box and disconnect the internal speaker (that's what's beeping?) from the motherboard and then try to make the computer reboot by doing the same thing you did before. If that doesn't cause the computer to reboot, then check to see that the speaker was plugged in correctly. If it does still cause the computer to reboot, then there's a problem elsewhere. This really sounds like you have a short between the speaker and the reset button. . .

The other problem you see after the computer has restarted is due to the sudden reboot. When your computer doesn't shut down cleanly, it can damage files on your hard drive so the OS checks to make sure all the files are OK during its next boot. If you solve the first problem, you're likely to solve the second one.

Thanks. It was a problem with my speaker/reset jumpers, which I never noticed because the old OS never thought to make beeping noises with the internal speaker. The other problem was due to incorrect shutdown, as you said.
